Which Education Software Program to Buy

It is definitely the season to be shopping. With Christmas only a couple of days away it is just crazy out there to try to get any shopping of any kind done. I was trying to make a quick purchase the other day when the kids were in school but then I was hit with the fact that there are so many educational software programs out there that I would not be able to stand there and make a quick decision. What is the best program to stick with? Is there a particular brand that I should buy or better yet, stay away from?
